Local History Group

The Group was founded in 2005 and now has around 50 members. We aim to promote interest in the Village of Fownhope and its surroundings, especially from a historic perspective.

Over the years much research information, including transcribed census material, has been gathered and is now stored in the Fownhope Community Archive. More recent history features in the many oral recordings of older residents’ memories.

Drawing on this archive/material, two books have been published – “Fownhope Remembered” (2007) and “Fownhope Beyond Memory” (2016/17).

Winter season talks are held in Fownhope New Memorial Hall; in summer we visit places of interest.
